“The Impact of New Media and Celebrity Journalism on the Public’s Perception of Fame.”
basically: how celebrity journalism glamorizes and misconstrues the hollywood life and how that affects the public’s attitudes towards that type of fame, combined with the fact that it’s seemingly easier to get your fifteen minutes of fame through new media (youtube and myspace celebrities, for example). the result? a generation who, when asked what they want to be when they grow up, respond with “famous” rather than naming an occupation; a generation that’s obsessed with stardom and obtaining that kind of celebrity status when it is arguably the easiest time to do so because the media enables it so readily (especially through reality shows); a generation where there are ten-year-old paparazzis stalking ryan seacrest outside of koi restaurant (true story — he was on seacrest’s morning radio show last summer).
it sounds interesting, but i’m finding difficulty in focusing it enough to be able to find research about it…or enough material to fill 15 pages. anyone have any comments or suggestions on how to make this work?
(not gonna lie: i just typed this out to avoid actually writing the paper, but yet i can still say i was at least thinking about the paper. hah.)
